Bazzite 44.20260919 lands as the latest stable release of the Fedora-based immutable Linux distribution built for gaming handhelds and desktops, and the most notable change under the hood is a shift in how the distro handles its audio session manager. The project has dropped its custom-patched WirePlumber build in favor of the terra community package (0.5.17), a move that should make it easier to stay current with upstream fixes and reduce maintenance burden on the Bazzite team. That swap pairs with a bump to PipeWire 1.6.9, keeping the entire audio stack fresh.
On the display compositor side, Gamescope moves from 3.16.28 to 3.16.29, and the gamescope-session-steam package has been substantially updated with a new git snapshot. The release also pulls in a patched gamescope-session-plus/steam script and aligns steam-tweaks more closely with upstream, which should reduce divergence from Valve's own SteamOS behavior. OpenGamepadUI receives a rebuild (0.46.1-7), and MangoHUD gets a packaging revision as well.
The container tooling stack sees meaningful updates too, with Podman jumping from 5.8.4 to 5.8.7, Buildah moving to 1.43.4, and Skopeo to 1.22.3. systemd advances to 259.9, and an installer fix now properly restores SELinux labels during installation, addressing a pain point for fresh deployments. Three new packages arrive in this release: libquirc, mpeghdec, and svt-jpeg-xs, the last of which brings open-source JPEG XS codec support for low-latency video workflows. The underlying stack remains on kernel 7.2.4 (6.18.49 for Nvidia LTS), Mesa 26.2.2, and Nvidia Open driver 615.71.09. Existing users can rebase with bazzite-rollback-helper rebase 44.20260919.
