In a market where wireless headphones compete on sound quality and battery life, the TDM. Neo takes a different approach by transforming into a portable Bluetooth speaker. First shown at CES in January 2025, the convertible headphones have launched on Kickstarter with Early Bird pricing starting at $189 (€174), marked down from an expected retail price of $249 (€229). Shipping to backers is expected in July 2025.
The transformation mechanism lets users twist the headband to wrap around the earcups, converting the device from over-ear headphones into a speaker. The companion app allows customization of what happens during the twist, whether that means automatically switching to speaker mode, pausing playback, or powering down. Four independently tuned 40mm drivers and dual amplifiers handle audio duties in both configurations.
Battery life is where the TDM. Neo really stands out. The larger battery required for speaker mode delivers up to 200 hours of playback in headphone mode, dropping to around 8 hours when pumping sound through the speakers. At 330 grams (11.6 ounces), the headphones are heavier than typical wireless cans but actually lighter than Apple's AirPods Max at 386 grams (13.6 ounces).
The headphones support Bluetooth 6 with multipoint pairing and include a 3.5mm jack for wired use. TDM designed the Neo with longevity in mind, featuring user-replaceable batteries and ear cushions. Working prototypes were demonstrated at CES, with hands-on videos available from attendees who tested the transforming mechanism firsthand.
