Lenovo has unveiled its most powerful Android gaming tablet yet, the Legion Tab (8.8 inch Gen 5), featuring Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, up to 16GB of LPDDR5X-10667 memory, and a 22.4 cm (8.8 inch) 3040 x 1904 display with a 165Hz refresh rate. Announced at Mobile World Congress 2026, the tablet will launch in April with prices starting at $849 (€999).
The fifth-generation Legion Tab packs flagship smartphone-level hardware into a 360 gram (13 ounce) gaming tablet, with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 delivering enough power to handle not just Android games and console emulation, but even some PC gaming through emulation and translation layers. The chip features an octa-core CPU with two prime cores clocked at 4.6GHz and six performance cores at 3.62GHz, manufactured on a 3-nanometer process. While Qualcomm has provided same-day upstream Linux kernel support for the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC, the chip notably lacks support for Android 16's new Linux Terminal feature due to missing non-protected virtual machine capabilities. Other specs include a 9,000 mAh battery, vapor chamber cooling (with 32% improved heat dissipation over the previous generation), dual USB Type-C ports, and a 50MP rear camera surrounded by an RGB light ring.
The tablet comes in three colors, Eclipse Black, Glacier White, or Surge (a bright green), and includes AI-powered features like enhanced audio for in-game sounds, noise cancellation for voice chat, and adaptive touch sensitivity based on scene analysis. While designed for gaming, the Legion Tab Gen 5 could also compete with Samsung's high-end general-purpose Android tablets, though it uses an LCD panel rather than OLED and lacks stylus support. The Gen 3 model launched in early 2025 for $500, but with memory and storage prices rising, the significant price increase for the Gen 5 reflects both the premium hardware and current market conditions.
