IKEA filed two unannounced smart lights with the Federal Communications Commission last week, expanding its Matter smart home lineup with new Thread-enabled lighting options. The filings reveal the UNDERSEGEL ceiling light and SPEGELBLANKT, a battery-powered portable luminaire.

The UNDERSEGEL (model T2501) is a circular ceiling fixture with a domed outer ring that operates on 120V AC at 60Hz, targeting US, Canadian, and Japanese markets. Its 18W power draw suggests brightness around 1,500 to 1,800 lumens, typical for a primary light source. Radio testing reports confirm Bluetooth, Thread, and Zigbee connectivity. The fixture mounts via standard keyhole slots on a central circular plate surrounded by a gray baseplate with three curved cutouts.

The SPEGELBLANKT takes a different approach as a wall-mountable, battery-powered light with Matter-over-Thread support but no Zigbee. Unlike other IKEA Matter devices, it cannot pair with remotes using Zigbee Light Link. The long, square design features dual keyhole mounting slots, suggesting use as a hanging night light. It runs on a 2,600mAh rechargeable lithium-ion battery (7.2V) with 5V DC at 2W input.

Both lights should integrate with open-source home automation platforms through their Matter-over-Thread support. IKEA's 2026 Matter devices work with Home Assistant and openHAB on Linux systems, and self-hosters can run Matter controllers on a Raspberry Pi using the open-source OpenThread Border Router. Early 2026 reports show IKEA Matter lights pairing successfully with Home Assistant installations, though some users experienced initial setup challenges with Thread devices requiring manual commissioning workarounds.

The SPEGELBLANKT documentation points to a new replaceable battery system using models ICBL7.2-18-USBC-B1 or ICBL7.2-18-B1, apparently updating the BRAUNIT battery pack currently used in IKEA smart blinds with USB-C charging. The naming pattern suggests these batteries maintain physical compatibility with older models for cross-device use across IKEA's hardware ecosystem. Meanwhile, IKEA recently released the VARMBLIXT lamp, TOFSMYGGA outdoor plug, and GRILLPLATS indoor plug to stores worldwide, with a DUBBELKISEL Matter light driver for cabinet lighting systems still pending release.

Neither device has passed Thread or Matter certification yet, so availability remains unclear. IKEA did not respond to inquiries about the UNDERSEGEL and SPEGELBLANKT as of press time.
