Chinese manufacturer FROG Technologies showed off a concept Android phone at Mobile World Congress 2026 that takes an unconventional approach to mobile design. The Frog RS1 features a 3.4 inch (8.6 cm) square touchscreen display that flips upward and rotates 90 degrees to reveal either a physical QWERTY keyboard or a gamepad beneath it, depending on the configuration.

The design bears a striking resemblance to the Motorola Flipout, which launched in 2010 with a similar rotating screen concept. That phone featured a 2.8 inch (7.1 cm) display, ran Android 2.1, and packed a single-core 720 MHz processor with just 512MB of RAM and storage. While detailed specs for the RS1 remain scarce, FROG Technologies has confirmed it runs on a MediaTek Helio G18 chipset with Android, leaving RAM and storage configurations open for potential customers.

FROG Technologies operates as an original design manufacturer (ODM), meaning the RS1 is a concept design that the company is shopping to carriers or brands interested in producing and selling phones based on the platform. The gamepad variant features a D-pad, four-button cluster, and Select/Start buttons, though the lack of shoulder buttons limits compatibility with some games. No pricing or release date has been announced, but the rotating hinge design offers a refreshing departure from the standard glass rectangle form factor that dominates the smartphone market.
