Local control is the headline for self-hosters eyeing the new SONOFF Basic DIN Rail (codenamed BASIC-1GSP). Because the switch speaks Matter over Wi-Fi, scanning its pairing QR code drops it straight into Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, or Home Assistant without going through SONOFF's eWeLink cloud. It also runs in LAN mode with no internet connection at all, keeping schedules, voice control, inching, and basic on/off working entirely on the local network.
The module is built around a Beken BK7238 wireless microcontroller, the same 32-bit Arm Cortex-M part (clocked up to 160 MHz with 288 KB of RAM and 2 MB of SiP flash) used in SONOFF's Basic Gen5 and Tx Gen2 switches. Radios cover 2.4 GHz 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi 4, Bluetooth LE 5.2, and Matter. What sets this unit apart is the form factor: it is a compact single-gang switch sized to clip onto a DIN rail inside an electrical distribution box, measuring 84 x 66.5 x 18 mm (3.3 x 2.6 x 0.7 in) and weighing 92.1 grams (3.2 oz).
Handling high-power circuits is the point here. The screw terminals accept 11 AWG to 6 AWG (4 mm² to 10 mm²) copper conductors and are rated for 100-240V AC at up to 32A, or 7,680W at 240V, enough for electric floor heating, EV chargers, and water heaters. Safety hardware includes double-pole switching for full physical isolation and customizable overload protection that trips within three seconds. A red LED reports relay state and a blue LED reports network status, with a single button for power and pairing. The casing is PC plastic rated for -15°C to 50°C (5°F to 122°F) operation, and certifications cover CE, RoHS, FCC, and CP65.
Real-time monitoring of voltage, current, power, and energy is the other draw, and it lands well for anyone building dashboards. Matter has carried electrical energy measurement since version 1.3, so the BASIC-1GSP's power and energy data can feed the Home Assistant Energy Dashboard. SONOFF notes that energy reporting is currently exposed only through eWeLink, Home Assistant, and Samsung SmartThings, and that over-the-air firmware updates remain eWeLink-only. Early adopters are already working through the usual first-firmware growing pains: a Home Assistant Core issue opened June 8, 2026 reports that updating the BASIC-1GSP from firmware v1.0.2 to v1.0.4 fixed broken kWh readings, but Home Assistant's Matter integration still shows the wrong firmware version for the device afterward. The user manual covers setup. SONOFF has shipped DIN rail gear before, including the larger 4-gang 4CH Pro R3 and a DIN rail tray accessory, but this is its first compact DIN rail switch with Matter over Wi-Fi.
The SONOFF Basic DIN Rail sells for $20 (€18) through SONOFF's online store.
