Chinese hardware maker 8086YES! has released the Pocket8086, a handheld retro computer that runs authentic Intel 8086, 8088, NEC V20, or NEC V30 processors at speeds between 4.77 and 10 MHz. The device packs a complete PC-XT class machine into a translucent plastic shell measuring 20.96 cm by 10.95 cm by 3.18 cm (8.25 by 4.31 by 1.25 inches), complete with a built-in IPS display, mechanical keyboard, and classic chipset components including an 8259 PIC, 8254 timer, and 8237 DMA controller.

The system includes 768 KB of RAM (640 KB base plus 128 KB upper memory), a replaceable TVGA9000i VGA card with 512 KB VRAM, and OPL3 audio through stereo speakers or a 3.5mm jack. Storage comes via a 512 MB CompactFlash card that ships with MS-DOS 6.22 preinstalled, while a CH375B controller enables USB mass storage support in DOS. The device supports both 4:3 and 16:9 display modes (640x480 or 800x480) and can output to external VGA monitors through an expansion module.

Expansion options include an 8-bit ISA bus, PS/2 port, serial and parallel headers, making the Pocket8086 compatible with classic ISA sound cards, network adapters, and other legacy hardware. The manufacturer offers the ISA8-Exp-01 expansion board separately to convert the internal ISA header into a standard slot. The device runs on a 4,000 mAh lithium battery with 12V DC input and includes open-source circuit diagrams, BIOS source code, and technical documentation on the 8086cpu.com website.

The Pocket8086 is available for $167 (€154), with the ISA expansion board priced at $18 (€17). A more powerful 386SX version is also available for $225 (€207).
