Proton Releases Beta Version 10.0-1 Enhancing Compatibility for Windows Games on Linux

Proton, the wine-based compatibility layer developed by Valve, has announced the release of its latest version, Proton 10.0-1 (beta). This update continues to enhance the ability of Linux users to run Windows-only games seamlessly, eliminating the need for native ports.

Among the notable additions, several previously experimental titles are now fully playable, including Batman: Arkham Asylum Game of the Year Edition, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, and No Man’s Sky in VR mode, among others.

The update also addresses various performance and gameplay issues. Improvements have been made to video playback in multiple titles, such as Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night and SOULCALIBUR VI. Additionally, a hack from Proton 7 has been reinstated, resolving crashes in games like NieR: Automata and DARK SOULS III when certain monitor resolutions are used.

Key fixes in this release include:

  • Enhanced performance in Dirt Rally 2.0.
  • Resolved launch issues for Grand Theft Auto V.
  • Fixed network connectivity problems in Hunt: Showdown 1896 after a recent update.
  • Improved reliability of Proton Prefix creation and various crash fixes for games with Intel and AMD GPUs.

Moreover, Proton 10.0-1 introduces support for mods that utilize custom dinput8.dll files and enhances the Steam Overlay functionality for games using Easy Anti-Cheat.

This version also includes significant updates to several underlying libraries, such as vkd3d-shader vkd3d-1.15, dxvk v2.6.1, and wine-mono 9.4.0.
