Lenovo has set a launch date for its next gaming tablet, with the Legion Y700 Gen 5 hitting China on 2026-03-18 at 19:00 local time (11:00 UTC). The device will arrive simultaneously with Lenovo's new lightweight multimedia tablets, bringing Qualcomm's flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset to the compact gaming tablet market.
The Legion Y700 Gen 5 features an 8.8-inch display (22.4 cm) with a 3040 x 1904 resolution and 165 Hz refresh rate, delivering 800 nits peak brightness and DCI-P3 color coverage. The tablet will be available in three configurations, 12 GB + 256 GB, 16 GB + 512 GB, and 24 GB + 1 TB, with LPDDR5T RAM clocked at 10667 Mbps and UFS 4.1 Pro storage. Early AnTuTu testing shows the device scoring 4,532,189 points, putting it alongside flagship smartphones like the Galaxy S26 Ultra, OnePlus 15, and RedMagic 11 Pro.
Qualcomm has posted upstream Linux kernel patches for the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 platform, with initial device tree and subsystem support under review. Previous Legion Y700 generations have attracted community development interest, with LineageOS builds available for the 2023 model and bootloader unlock methods documented for the fourth generation, though device-level support for the Gen 5 will depend on vendor kernel source release and community porting efforts once units reach developers.
Powering the device is a 9,000 mAh battery with 68W fast charging support, while dual JBL speakers with Dolby Atmos handle audio. The tablet runs Android 16 with Lenovo's ZUI interface and includes a 50-megapixel rear camera with RGB ring LED flash. Lenovo plans to release the global version, branded as the Legion Tab Gen 5, in April 2026 across Africa, Europe, and the Middle East at $849 (€782).
