Huawei is launching a fan-cooled variant of its Mate 80 Pro Max flagship smartphone. The Wind Edition adds active cooling to the device, potentially enabling the HiSilicon Kirin 9030 Pro processor to sustain higher performance under continuous load. The fan could also help cool the camera system during extended video recording sessions, though Huawei removes one of the standard model's four rear cameras to accommodate the cooling hardware.

The Mate 80 Pro Max features an 8,000-nit tandem OLED display, a main camera with variable aperture, and secure 3D face recognition. The Wind Edition shares these specifications while adding the thermal management system that distinguishes it from the standard flagship.

The Wind Edition will be available for pre-order in China starting 2026-03-21 in two configurations: 16 GB RAM with 512 GB storage, or 16 GB RAM with 1 TB storage. Pricing has not been confirmed yet, but the standard Mate 80 Pro Max without active cooling starts at 7,999 yuan ($1,160, €1,067).
