Hisense's latest E Ink smartphone takes a modular approach to the dual-screen concept. The Hisense A10 features a 15.6 cm (6.13-inch) E Ink display as its primary screen, with a 12.7 cm (5-inch) color LCD that attaches magnetically to the back of the phone and can be removed entirely when you just want a slim e-reader in your pocket. Powered by a 4nm Qualcomm chipset with 5G and Wi-Fi 6, it ships with Android 16 and comes in configurations of 12 GB RAM with 256 GB storage or 16 GB RAM with 512 GB storage.

The detachable design is a meaningful evolution over the Bigme HiBreak Dual, a dual-screen E Ink phone that hit Kickstarter earlier this month with a permanently attached LCD on its back. Both phones share nearly identical display sizes, memory configurations, and ship with Android 16, but the Hisense approach lets you choose your form factor on the fly. The E Ink side serves as the primary interface for reading and note-taking with paper-like contrast and excellent sunlight visibility. Snap the LCD on when you need full color, smooth scrolling, or video playback.

Hisense has been building E Ink phones for years, including the dual-screen A2 Pro nearly a decade ago, but the A10 is the company's first new model since the A9 launched in 2022. The A9 accumulated a community LineageOS port bringing Android 14 to the device, though no equivalent work has appeared for the A10 yet. The phone is expected to sell for around $590 (€545) in China, with the detachable LCD panel reportedly sold separately. Hisense has not shared details on how the rear screen communicates with the phone or announced availability outside China.
