BenQ has launched the MA270S, a 27-inch (68.6 cm) professional monitor targeting Mac users and content creators who need high pixel density without Apple's premium pricing. The display delivers 5120 x 2880 resolution at 70Hz, matching the pixel count of Apple's Studio Display at $999 (€920), compared to Apple's $1,599 (€1,470) starting price.
The monitor uses an IPS panel with nano-glass glossy coating, 218 PPI pixel density, 10-bit color depth supporting 1.07 billion colors, and coverage of 99% DCI-P3 and 99% sRGB color spaces. BenQ rates the panel at 450 nits brightness in SDR mode with a 2000:1 contrast ratio and 5ms gray-to-gray response time. The nano-glass coating aims to deliver deeper blacks and better contrast compared to standard anti-glare treatments, though the VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification and lack of local dimming means HDR performance will be limited.
Connectivity includes dual HDMI 2.1 ports, USB-C with DisplayPort Alt Mode and 35W power delivery, plus two Thunderbolt 4 ports offering 15W and 96W power delivery with daisy-chaining support. The monitor includes KVM switching, picture-in-picture and picture-by-picture modes, dual 3W speakers, and a fully adjustable stand with tilt, height, swivel and pivot. BenQ's Display Pilot 2 software enables direct setting adjustments from the computer and syncs with MacBook controls for brightness and volume, plus an M-book color matching mode for consistent appearance across Apple devices.
The MA270S is available now through BenQ's website and select retailers for $999 (€920). At roughly 60% of the Studio Display's price while offering similar core specifications plus Thunderbolt 4 and more versatile connectivity, the MA270S positions itself as a practical alternative for designers and content creators seeking retina-class resolution on external displays.
