Bazzite version 44.20261006 ships with a notably active kernel cycle, jumping from 7.2.7-ogc1 to 7.2.8-ogc4 across four successive builds in a single week. The update also bumps Mesa to 26.2.4 and pulls in fresh firmware dated 2026-09-16, covering a broad swath of GPU and wireless hardware. For anyone running the immutable Fedora Atomic-based distro on a handheld gaming PC, this is a dense release.

Handheld-specific changes dominate the commit log. A new ayaneo-leds kernel module (packaged as an akmod) lands for the first time, giving AYANEO device owners programmatic control over their chassis LEDs directly from Linux. ASUS ROG Ally users get two targeted fixes: a hardware database tweak that suppresses a duplicate ACPI power button event that could fire spurious inputs, and an additional device permutation to improve hardware detection on newer Ally variants. A separate networking fix disables ASPM for the MediaTek MT7921e WiFi chipset, a common module in handhelds and mini PCs where aggressive power saving has been a known source of connection drops.

On the desktop side, a plasma-setup service has been removed entirely after it caused inconsistent desktop loading on fresh installs in deck mode. Gamescope picks up a minor patch (3.16.31^2), and its session component gets an updated snapshot. A new xdg-native-messaging-proxy package resolves an issue where Firefox browser extensions could not communicate with native host applications on the immutable filesystem, a pain point that affected password managers and other extension-to-system integrations.

Under the hood, the Intel compute stack sees a significant revision: intel-igc jumps from 2.36.3 to 2.41.9, intel-opencl moves to 26.35.39758.11, and the older LLVM 15 toolchain libraries are dropped in favor of clang-libs 22.1.8 and a matching SPIR-V translator. OpenSSL advances to 3.5.9, glibc to 2.43-9, and Tailscale to 1.102.5.
