AU Optronics has announced the development of the world's first 24 inch (61.0 cm) 1080p gaming monitor panel capable of 800Hz refresh rates. The Taiwanese display manufacturer revealed the panel ahead of the Touch Taiwan 2026 event, though technical details remain sparse beyond the headline specifications.

The new panel appears to be an evolution of AUO's existing 24 inch TN Film technology, which has powered recent esports displays like the Asus ROG Strix XG248QSG Ace that reached 610Hz. While some monitors have achieved even higher refresh rates, notably 1080Hz, those have relied on dual-mode functionality that drops resolution to 720p. This new AUO panel delivers 800Hz at native 1920 x 1080 resolution, maintaining full HD sharpness for competitive gaming.

AU Optronics also unveiled a 32 inch (81.3 cm) 4K panel with 360Hz refresh and dual-mode support, plus a 27 inch (68.6 cm) 5K panel targeting 180Hz with similar dual-mode capabilities. The company has not disclosed which resolutions these dual-mode panels will support at higher refresh rates, though the 32 inch and 27 inch models are expected to use IPS technology rather than TN Film. No manufacturers have announced products using these panels yet, and pricing and availability remain unknown.
