Square displays have carved out a niche in the SBC world for dashboard panels, home automation interfaces, and system monitoring screens, but most options top out around 10.2 cm (4 inches). VIEWE now offers a 7.6-inch alternative in two resolutions: the UEDX80800076-HMD-RB-A at 800x800 and the UEDX12120076-HMD-RB-A at 1200x1200. Both use IPS panels with 1,000 cd/m² brightness, connect over Mini HDMI 1.4, and draw power through a single USB-C cable that also carries the optional 5-point capacitive touch input.
Internally, the displays convert HDMI to MIPI DSI via an ITE bridge chip, with the 800x800 model driven by an ILI9881C controller and the 1200x1200 variant likely using a HX8279. The active area measures 13.5 x 13.5 cm (5.3 x 5.3 inches) in a compact 14.8 x 14.3 cm (5.8 x 5.6 inches) frame weighing 250 g (8.8 oz). Operating temperature ranges from -20 to 70°C (-4 to 158°F), so they can handle embedded and enclosure builds without thermal concerns. Any device with an HDMI output works as a host, from a Raspberry Pi to an NVIDIA Jetson to a desktop PC running a secondary stats screen. Raspberry Pi OS users will need to add a custom hdmi_cvt line to config.txt to set the non-standard square resolution at 60 Hz. The touch input is less involved. The USB capacitive controller presents as a standard HID device and works without additional drivers on Raspberry Pi OS, Ubuntu, and other Linux distributions, as listed on VIEWE's product pages.
The 800x800 model starts at $85 (€78) and the 1200x1200 version at $132 (€121), both before tax and shipping. Documentation on VIEWE's product pages currently has some errors, including mismatched dimensions and an incorrect PDF manual for the higher-resolution model, so double-check datasheets before designing an enclosure around them.
