The Raspberry Pi Compute Module 0, a compact castellated module built around a 1 GHz quad-core Cortex-A53 processor with 512 MB of LPDDR2 RAM, is starting to show up in finished industrial products. EDATEC has launched two DIN-rail computers around it, the ED-IPC1200 and ED-IPC1220, each pairing the CM0 with isolated digital I/O, dual RS485, RS232, 10/100 Ethernet, and a USB 2.0 port. Both run 32-bit or 64-bit Raspberry Pi OS, ship with 8 GB or 16 GB of eMMC, and draw roughly 5 W from a 9 V to 28 V DC input.
The two models split along I/O density. The ED-IPC1200 carries four isolated digital inputs and four isolated digital outputs with 3.75 kV isolation, measuring 10.5 x 8.6 x 2.6 cm (4.1 x 3.4 x 1.0 inches). The ED-IPC1220 doubles that to eight inputs and eight outputs and adds four 12-bit analog channels, two 0 to 10 V voltage inputs and two 0 to 20 mA current inputs, with sampling up to 3 kHz and ±0.1% accuracy at 25°C (77°F). That bumps its depth to 4.2 cm (1.7 inches) but keeps the same 10.5 x 8.6 cm (4.1 x 3.4 inches) footprint. Both use removable Phoenix-style terminals for field wiring and offer optional 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, and regional 4G Cat 1 cellular with a Nano SIM slot.
The CM0 itself has had an unusual rollout. Raspberry Pi unveiled it in late 2025 at the China International Industry Fair at a $18 starting price, initially restricting distribution to the Chinese market to protect Zero 2 W supply for the education channel. By mid-2026, the module has appeared in commercial products from partners like EDATEC, though broader global retail availability remains limited. For anyone running Raspberry Pi OS on industrial hardware, the CM0's long-term production commitment and familiar Linux software stack make these DIN-rail units a straightforward fit for building automation, data acquisition, or edge gateway deployments.
EDATEC supplies custom drivers for the RS485, RS232, digital I/O, and analog interfaces layered on top of the standard Raspberry Pi OS image. Node-RED is specifically listed as supported middleware for flow-based data routing, alongside Python and OpenCV for scripting and computer vision tasks. CODESYS is also available for teams targeting IEC 61131-3 PLC-style programming, as noted in CNX Software's coverage of the announcement.
EDATEC has not published pricing for either the ED-IPC1200 or ED-IPC1220, though distributor listings suggest sample pricing in the $150 to $200 (€140 to €185) range for the base ED-IPC1200. Both models are listed on EDATEC's product page and are rated for an operating temperature range of -20°C to 60°C (-4°F to 140°F).
