The first piece of hardware from Valve's revamped Steam hardware lineup is officially available. The new Steam Controller began shipping on 2026-05-04, priced at $99 (€92), ahead of the Steam Frame and new Steam Machine that Valve announced alongside it last year.
Valve's latest controller packs magnetic thumbsticks, four haptic motors, and an 8.39 Wh battery, with both wireless and wired connectivity. It sits below the ASUS ROG Raikiri II at $160 (€147) and well above standard first-party console controllers, positioning itself as a premium option for PC gamers.
On the Linux side, the controller currently works through the Steam Runtime, meaning it integrates with Steam's own input layer rather than relying on upstream kernel support. No HID driver patches for the new controller have appeared in the Linux kernel yet, so native support outside of Steam remains an open question for now. US orders are estimated at 3 to 5 business days for delivery.
