Icy Electronics has released the nRF54L15 Discovery, a compact wireless development board with full KiCad design files published under the CERN Open Hardware License V2. The board pairs Nordic Semiconductor's nRF54L15 wireless SoC with an nRF52820 running CMSIS-DAP firmware, giving developers an onboard programmer and debugger without any external hardware. Both halves sit on a single 9.1 x 2.1 cm (3.6 x 0.8 inches) PCB connected by mouse-bite bridges that snap apart, turning one purchase into two independent boards, each with its own USB-C port.
The nRF54L15 target runs an Arm Cortex-M33 at up to 128 MHz alongside a RISC-V coprocessor for software-defined peripherals, backed by 256 KB of SRAM and 1.5 MB of non-volatile memory. Wireless support covers Bluetooth LE 6.0 with Channel Sounding, Thread, Zigbee, Matter, Amazon Sidewalk, NFC, and a proprietary 2.4 GHz mode capable of 4 Mbps. Power management comes from a Nordic nPM1300 PMIC handling LiPo charging at 32 to 800 mA with USB-C PD support, paired with a TPS63900 buck-boost converter selectable between 1.8V and 3.3V I/O. Expansion headers break out up to 48 GPIOs across 60 castellated-edge pins with SPI, UART, I2C, PWM, I2S, PDM, and a 14-bit ADC.
On the software side, the board supports Zephyr RTOS through the nRF Connect SDK and also runs MicroPython. The nRF52820 debugger section comes pre-flashed, so flashing the target is a single west flash -r pyocd command out of the box. Because CMSIS-DAP presents over USB HID, no kernel driver installation is required on Linux; pyOCD only needs a udev rule added for non-root device access. If snapped off, the nRF52820 half becomes its own standalone Bluetooth 5.2 LE and 802.15.4 devboard with a Cortex-M4 at 64 MHz.
The nRF54L15 Discovery is available now for $27 (€25) on Lectronz, with minor volume discounts starting at five units. Shipping from France starts at $3.20 (€3) for untracked global delivery.
