Jellyfin App for Xbox Receives First Update in Five Years Under New Maintainer JPVenson

The Jellyfin application for Xbox has launched a new version, marking its first update in five years. This development comes as the app gains a new maintainer, JPVenson, who aims to revitalize its functionality and enhance user experience.

The app had been largely unmaintained for several years, with only sporadic bug fixes. The latest update addresses numerous bugs and introduces a significant change by replacing the outdated Edge web browser engine with a modern, Chromium-based engine. This upgrade paves the way for expanded support for advanced formats, including HEVC, 4K, and HDR, on compatible devices in future updates.

JPVenson has committed to actively managing contributions and addressing bug reports. While the focus is on enhancing the app’s features, user feedback will play a crucial role in shaping its future.

The new version is now available for download on the Microsoft Store for current Xbox consoles.
