Harvester Releases Version 1.5.0 Enhancing Hyperconverged Infrastructure with New Features and Support Options

Table of Contents

Harvester, an open-source hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) software solution built on Kubernetes, has announced the release of version 1.5.0. This modern infrastructure is aimed at operators seeking a cloud-native alternative that runs on bare metal servers and integrates virtualization and distributed storage capabilities.

Significant features in this release include:

  • Longhorn V2 Data Engine Enhancements: Users can now create virtual machine images and boot volumes using the V2 Data Engine and perform live migrations of virtual machines with attached V2 volumes.
  • Third-Party Storage Support: The software now allows provisioning of root and data volumes using external container storage interface (CSI) drivers, enabling users to choose storage solutions that meet specific performance or integration needs.
  • ARM64 Support: The software fully supports deployment on ARM architecture, expanding its usability in various environments.

For detailed documentation, users can visit the Harvester documentation page.

Important Notes #

Users are advised that Rancher Kubernetes Engine (RKE) will reach its end of life on July 31, 2025. Future versions of Harvester, starting from v1.6.0, will not support RKE. It is recommended to transition to RKE2 for a more secure and efficient environment.

In-place upgrades are not supported, necessitating the creation of new RKE2 clusters and migration of workloads from existing RKE clusters. Additional information on this process can be found here.
