Arch Linux Replaces Redis Packages With Valkey Fork Amid Licensing Changes

Arch Linux has announced the replacement of its Redis packages with the Valkey fork, a move reflecting changes in licensing terms. This decision aligns with other Linux distributions that are also adopting Valkey, which is supported by the Linux Foundation and various technology vendors.

The transition comes in response to Redis’s shift from a BSD 3-clause license to the more restrictive Redis Source Available License (RSALv2) and Server Side Public License (SSPLv1). As a result, Arch Linux will remove Redis from its extra repository after a two-week grace period, during which users are encouraged to migrate to Valkey. Following this period, the Redis package will be transferred to the Arch User Repository (AUR) and will not receive further updates.

Users seeking more information on this transition can refer to the official Arch announcement.
