System76 has refreshed its Pangolin laptop line with the Pangolin Pro, and the most notable addition might not be the processor upgrade. The new model includes an OCuLink port, providing a 4-lane PCIe Gen 4 interface for connecting external GPU enclosures or high-speed storage docks directly to the laptop. That makes the Pangolin Pro one of a small number of Linux-first laptops offering this kind of expandability, which is particularly appealing for users who want portable productivity and docked GPU performance without resorting to Thunderbolt workarounds.

Under the hood, the Pangolin Pro runs an AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 "Krackan Point" processor paired with a 40.6 cm (16 inch) 2560 x 1600 matte LTPS display at 165 Hz. The base configuration ships with 16GB of DDR5-5600 memory and a 500GB PCIe Gen 4 SSD, but with two SODIMM slots and two M.2 2280 slots, there is plenty of room for user upgrades up to 96GB of RAM and additional NVMe storage. Connectivity is generous: USB 4.0 Type-C and USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C (both with DisplayPort Alt Mode), three USB-A ports, HDMI 2.1, 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet, a microSD reader, and optional WiFi 6E with Bluetooth 5.2.

System76 also managed to fit an 80 Wh battery into the chassis, a significant jump from the outgoing model's 57.75 Wh cell, while simultaneously trimming weight to 1.7 kg (3.64 lbs) from the previous 1.7 kg (3.82 lbs). The laptop includes a 1080p webcam, a backlit keyboard, stereo speakers, and ships with a 100W USB-C charger. Buyers can choose between Pop!_OS or Ubuntu pre-installed. The Pop!_OS option ships with COSMIC, System76's Rust-based desktop environment that reached its first stable release in late 2025 and is maintained as an open-source project designed for adoption across distributions. On the graphics side, AMD upstreamed support for the Radeon 860M's GFX1152 graphics target to the open-source amdgpu kernel driver, meaning GPU acceleration runs on the standard mainline driver, while hardware features including fan control and hotkeys are handled by System76's open-source system76-dkms package, which installs automatically on Pop!_OS and is available via the System76 PPA for Ubuntu users.

The Pangolin Pro is available now starting at $1,699 (€1,560) with a one-year warranty included.
