Waveshare Introduces CM5-DUAL-ETH-MINI-BOX Dual Ethernet Router for Raspberry Pi CM5 Integration

Waveshare has launched the CM5-DUAL-ETH-MINI-BOX, a dual gigabit Ethernet router designed specifically for the Raspberry Pi CM5. This new product features a compact metal enclosure reminiscent of other popular router models, including the NanoPi R2S Plus and NanoPi R3S.

The CM5-DUAL-ETH-MINI-BOX includes essential features such as a microSD card slot for booting the Raspberry Pi CM5 Lite, a USB 3.0 Type-A port, a USB Type-C port for power and eMMC flash programming, as well as power and boot buttons. Notably, the router provides easy access to a 40-pin GPIO header without needing to open the case.

  • Supported Systems on Module (SoMs): Compatible with Raspberry Pi CM5 and CM5 Lite, along with potential support for the Raspberry Pi CM4, Orange Pi CM5, and Radxa CM5.
  • Networking:
    • Two Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 ports, one directly from the CM5 board and the other via a RealTek RTL8111H PCIe controller.
    • WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5 capabilities using an external antenna (not included).
  • USB:
    • One USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A port.
    • One USB Type-C port for power and programming.

    • CM5-DUAL-ETH-MINI carrier board: 68 x 55 mm.

The kit includes a CM5-DUAL-ETH-MINI carrier board, a fully assembled metal case, five thermal pads, a black thermal tape, four anti-slip rubber pads, a screwdriver, and an optional 27W power adapter. Notably, the Raspberry Pi CM5 is sold separately, and users will need to provide their own external antenna if wireless connectivity is desired.

Installation is designed to be user-friendly. The Raspberry Pi CM5 can be inserted into the provided connectors, and thermal pads are placed on key components to ensure effective cooling within the metal enclosure.

The software setup is straightforward, allowing users to install the Raspberry Pi OS or other compatible operating systems on the Raspberry Pi CM5. Additional support can be found on the Waveshare wiki.
