Synology Introduces VAAI Plug-in Support for vSphere 8.0
WilliamLam.com reports that the latest version of the Synology NFS VAAI Plug-In (2.0-1109) can be successfully installed and used on an ESXi 8.0 system, despite Synology’s official support only going up to vSphere 7.0. The plug-in can be downloaded from the Synology website and installed using ESXCLI or vSphere Lifecycle Manager. After rebooting the ESXi host, a new shared volume can be created on the Synology using File Station and connected to the NFS v3 datastore. The new NFS VMkernel binding feature in vSphere 8.0 Update 1 can be used with the NFS datastore, and hardware acceleration is enabled. Performance with NFS is more consistent than using iSCSI.
This news is of interest to home lab enthusiasts who use Synology storage in conjunction with VMware vSphere. The ability to use the Synology NFS VAAI Plug-In on an ESXi 8.0 system provides improved performance and simplifies the configuration and management of storage.
