The Framework 13 laptop, featuring the new AMD Ryzen AI 300 series “Strix Point” System on Chip (SoC), has officially launched, showcasing significant upgrades for Linux users. The device is equipped with the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, which boasts 12 Zen 5 cores and Radeon 890M integrated graphics. This combination offers impressive performance for those seeking a robust Linux laptop option for 2025.

Framework continues to emphasize modularity, allowing users to easily upgrade their existing Framework 13 devices with the new Strix Point motherboard. This flexibility is a key feature of Framework laptops, as it enables seamless enhancements without the need for a complete system replacement. The new models, including configurations with Ryzen AI 5 340 and Ryzen AI 7 350, are available for pre-order through the Framework website. Initial batches have sold out, with new orders expected to ship later in Q2 2023.

Testing of the Framework 13 with the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 has shown strong performance, reportedly outperforming other competitors in the same category. The SoC features a maximum boost clock of 5.1 GHz and supports 24 threads through simultaneous multithreading (SMT). With a thermal design power (TDP) of 28 Watts and an adjustable cTDP ranging from 15 to 54 Watts, the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 is designed for efficiency and power.

To fully leverage the capabilities of the new hardware, users are encouraged to utilize the latest Linux distributions. Testing has been conducted with Ubuntu 25.04, which, along with Linux kernel 6.14 and Mesa 25.0 drivers, provides an optimal environment for a smooth user experience.
