ADATA Unveils Premier Extreme SD 8.0 Express Memory Card with Enhanced Read Speeds and Compatibility Options

ADATA Technology has introduced the Premier Extreme SD 8.0 Express memory card, marking a significant advancement as the first product adhering to the SD 8.0 Express specification. This new card boasts impressive read speeds of up to 1,600 MB/s and write speeds of 1,200 MB/s, facilitated by a PCIe Gen3 x2 interface and NVMe transfer protocol.
The evolution of SD specifications has been notable, with the SD 7.0 standard emerging in 2018, which allowed for speeds of up to 985 MB/s using PCIe and NVMe interfaces. The latest SD 9.0 specification, ratified in 2023, has further increased potential speeds to 4 GB/s. Despite these advancements, market adoption of SD Express technology has been gradual, primarily due to the limited availability of compatible host devices.
The new SD 8.0 Express memory card is compatible with SD Express and microSD Express card readers, high-end cameras featuring an SD Express slot, and forthcoming devices like the Nintendo Switch 2. While other devices can access the card in compatibility mode (U3 V30 video class speed), the card’s full potential can only be realized with the appropriate hardware.
ADATA claims that this new memory card is significantly faster than its predecessors, offering performance that is double that of SD 7.0 Express cards and twelve times that of UHS-I SD cards. It also supports simultaneous access from multiple devices and incorporates LDPC ECC automatic error correction technology. The card has been rigorously tested for waterproof, shockproof, anti-static, and temperature resistance to ensure data security under various conditions.
Pricing details for the 512GB Premier Extreme SD 8.0 Express memory card have not yet been disclosed, but estimates suggest it may range between $150 and $200, based on the pricing of existing SD cards on the market.
